Steve Sammut Biography
Steve is an experienced executive with deep general management experience in business-to-business and business-to-consumer environments, and has a proven track record of leading rapidly growing businesses through developing strong strategic plans and building high performing organizations to implement them.
He is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Rocky Mountaineer, a leading global tourism and hospitality company that welcomes tens of thousands of guests from around the world on multi-day rail tours running on a variety of routes in western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. The company has been one of Canada’s Best Managed Businesses for the past 5 years running, was named the 2017 Canadian Private Company Growth Award winner by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and has won numerous other business and tourism awards and accolades.
Prior to his role as President and CEO, Steve previously held a variety of increasingly senior executive positions with Rocky Mountaineer, Intracorp and Intrawest ULC.
Steve is a member of the Business Council of Canada. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, where he is a past Chair and past Vice Chair, as well as on the Board for St. George’s School where he acts as Finance & Audit committee chair.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Steve earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto and his MBA from McMaster University, where he was also selected for an international exchange with Manchester Business School in Manchester, UK. He also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1999, leaving a role in corporate banking with CIBC World Markets to join the headquarters of the global resort operator and developer Intrawest, and has resided there since.
About the Catalyst Accord:
The Catalyst Accord 2022 calls on Canadian boards and CEOs to pledge to accelerate the advancement of women in business through these actions:
- Increase the average percentage of women on boards and women in executive positions in corporate Canada to 30% or greater by 2022.
- Share key metrics with Catalyst for annual benchmarking of our collective progress.
