Trade Tariffs

We know that keeping up with shifting tariffs and trade policies can be frustrating, especially when the situation seems to change overnight. The uncertainty can make it tough to plan ahead, and that’s the last thing our tourism operators need right now.

That’s why we’ve created this member portal — to keep you in the loop with the most current information on tariff changes that could affect your business. Since this situation is constantly evolving, we’re committed to tracking the latest developments and sharing what matters most to you.

Check back here for updates as things unfold, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

NOTE: Businesses can submit remission requests to remissions-remises@fin.gc.ca using a template that the Government has provided. A public consultation process is open until March 25. Businesses, organizations and individuals can provide comments on the issue of trade tariffs through this online form, by email, or by mail.

Message From Beth Potter, President & CEO of TIAC

For over 50 years, Canada and the United States have shared a special relationship that transcends politics and administrations. This enduring relationship is evident in our deeply integrated economies, including our position as each other’s top visitor destination for one another’s citizens.

Since January, we have directly engaged with government officials through the Prime Minister’s Canada-US Summit and a weekly forum with officials from Finance Canada on any support measures.

Rest assured that we are advocating for meaningful and targeted support measures for our industry. To ensure that Canada remains a competitive destination, we have urged the Minister of Finance to act swiftly to extend the International Convention Attraction Fund (ICAF) and increase funding for international marketing efforts. We are steadfast in our belief that our industry will not only weather these uncertain times but will emerge stronger than before.

We are in this together and by working together, we will navigate these challenges while continuing to showcase Canada as a top-tier global destination.

TIAC is working every day to protect Canada’s tourism industry, ensuring it remains strong, competitive, and resilient. As challenges emerge, we are actively advocating for our sector, pushing for solutions, and securing the support tourism businesses need to thrive.

On February 7, TIAC was invited to participate in the Prime Minister's Canada-U.S. Summit, where Amy Butcher, VP of Stakeholder Relations and Engagement, represented our industry alongside other national tourism organization leaders. This high-level summit brought together Canadian leaders across trade, business, industry, public policy, and organized labour to address Canada’s economic future and our relationship with our largest trading partner, longtime ally, and close friend, the United States.
