Tourism Congress + Canadian Tourism Awards > Ottawa events around the TIAC Tourism Congress
Looking to complement your TIAC Tourism Congress visit with great experiences in Canada’s Capital Region?
Whether you’ll be in the area only during the conference, or you’re planning to come early or stay later, hopefully you’ll be able to take advantage of what’s happening throughout the city in your free time. Here are some of the special events taking place – including many holiday-related items – around the TIAC conference.
Magic of Lights
Have access to a vehicle? Make your way to Wesley Clover Parks and Campground for a dazzling two-kilometre drive-through holiday lights show. Experience the magic from the comfort of your own car as you wind through the sparkling path. (Nov. 16, 2018 – Jan. 5, 2019)
The Penultimate Problem of Sherlock Holmes
Head to The Gladstone theatre near Ottawa’s Little Italy to see this play in which Holmes ventures into the occult where, during a séance, he is warned that he is about to meet his maker. (Nov. 23 – Dec. 1)
Nutcracker
During this annual show at the National Arts Centre, the Alberta Ballet pulls out all the stops with brilliant costumes, extravagant sets and charming, original choreography. (Nov. 28 – Dec. 2)
Christmas tree lighting and Christmas market
On November 29 at 6:00 p.m., the Canadian Museum of History is holding its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony (complete with carols, Beaver Bite pastries and hot chocolate). And from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2, a Christmas market is held in the Grand Hall, with more than 80 vendors and artisans from the region.
Ottawa Senators and 67s hockey
Join Ottawa hockey fans as they cheer on their professional teams. On Nov. 26, Ottawa’s Ontario Hockey league team, the Ottawa 67s, play at TD Place at Lansdowne in the Glebe neighbourhood. Or head to the Canadian Tire Centre on Nov. 29 to see the Ottawa Senators face the New York Rangers.
Christmas Tree Lighting
If you’re still in Ottawa on Nov. 30, you could head to Lansdowne for their tree lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy carolers, REDBLACKS’ mascot Big Joe Ho Ho and his friends Sparky and Riley Raccoon, players from TD Place sports teams, and maybe even Santa Clause. Complimentary hot chocolate and cider will be served.

Take your pick amongst the many special exhibits now on at Ottawa museums. Some of the current events include live butterflies, modern design, the last days of the First World War and medieval Europe.
