BERNIER TAPS TOURISM CHAMPION FOR CANADIAN TOURISM COMMISSION
October 16, 2014 - Ottawa, Ontario - On behalf of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada's (TIAC) Board of Directors, we commend the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State, and the Government of Canada on their choice to appoint tourism industry champion David Goldstein as the new President and CEO of the Canadian Tourism Commission, Canada's national travel marketing agency (see Industry Canada's press release below).
We wish to extend our sincere congratulations to David Goldstein on his appointment as President and CEO of the Canadian Tourism Commission, and look forward to increasing the already collaborative relationship between TIAC and the CTC.
Through his tenure of leadership at TIAC David successfully undertook an organizational restructuring that prioritized advocacy, industry engagement and alignment - all focused on addressing some of Canada's key competitive barriers in the travel and tourism sector.
"David's media savvy, determination and inclusive approach to addressing our key challenges helped reshape our organization and reframed our prominence as an industry" commented TIAC Board Chair, Michael Crockatt. "While he will be missed, the legacy of his leadership will carve a path for greater things to come."
TIAC has been an active partner with the Government of Canada in advancing the Federal Tourism Strategy as a means to reduce competitive barriers for Canada's $84B travel and tourism sector.
Goldstein noted in his notice to the TIAC board, "while I leave an exceptional team at TIAC who are committed to your service, I am excited by the opportunity to work with the gifted and dedicated team at the CTC to advance both the commercial interests of the sector, and the federal government's desire to provide broader economic opportunity to the Canadian economy."
In the coming weeks TIAC's Board of Directors will provide further information regarding the transition process for TIAC's senior management.
Sincerely,
Michael Crockatt
TIAC Board Chair
