TIAC Talk Articles > Show Why Tourism Matters in #Elxn43
![]() |
Election Day is right around the corner. The federal parties have made important commitments to support businesses, and tourism operations, but it remains crucial to make our voices heard at votetourism.ca!
We need your support to ensure candidates from all parties are educated about the important contributions the tourism sector makes to the Canadian economy. All politics is local and politicians are more concerned about how issues affect the local economy and workforce than the national big picture.
The Liberal Platform was released on Sunday, and we are encouraged by the inclusion of the commitments stated relating to our industry. Permanent changes to support Canadian workers in seasonal industries, and a commitment to establish a Tourism Community Infrastructure Fund to invest $100 million are highlights of their plan for the next four years.
We were also encouraged to see the mention of investment in coastal communities, which are home to many businesses in our industry. The new Learn to Camp program would allow 400,000 kids each year to learn basic camping skills and have the opportunity to see more of Canada.
Sending a letter directly to your local candidate, and asking them to pledge to be a Tourism Champion if elected, allows us to make strides to continue to see commitments like this in Federal platforms moving forward. We look forward to sharing the Conservative Party platform commitment highlights once released.
