Earlier this week, news of the official launch of the Canada-China Tourism Year (CCTY) was announced. This announcement brings fresh excitement to Canada's tourism industry, who has been preparing and continues to prepare for further increases in Chinese tourism, as set out in the government's New Tourism Vision (NTV).

Chinese tourism to Canada has grown by an average of 20% annually since 2011, and Canada welcomed over 566 million Chinese travelers in the first 9 months of 2017. China is Canada's third largest inbound market, and with continued growth could supersede the U.K. and take 2nd position in just a few years.

TIAC and Canada's tourism industry are ready for this change. Through TIAC's China readiness training, international trade & educational missions, and panel discussions at our annual congress, the industry is continually engaged in the trends and growth in the Chinese market.

As we watch the government move forward to potential free-trade agreements with China, TIAC is confident that tourism will remain top-of-mind in these discussions, better facilitating openness and economic benefits associated with growing our share of the Chinese tourism market.
