This fall, in addition to TIAC’s VoteTourism.ca campaign, TIAC participated in election advocacy efforts with other industry associations in the National Roundtable on Travel and Tourism (NRTT). The NRTT is a partnership of Canadian national travel and tourism organizations engaged with government to promote a new approach to tourism-related policy aimed at building a stronger, more competitive and world class travel and tourism industry in Canada.
During the election, the NRTT collaborated to put forward a letter to all political candidates on policy recommendations to increase employment in travel and tourism. Labour issues are prevalent in all areas of the tourism sector, and it was important to provide a united front on opportunities for improvement from the federal government. Recommendations touched on the domestic workforce, international opportunities and easier pathways to permanent residency.
