TIAC Talk Articles > Federal Advisory Council
In November, The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie announced the creation of an Advisory Council on Jobs and the Visitor Economy.
The Minister and the department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) will work closely with national associations like TIAC to provide expertise as the new Federal Strategy on Jobs and the Visitor Economy is being developed.
Minister Joly has travelled throughout Canada to meet with front-line business owners that make up Canada’s tourism sector. Their feedback will provide input into the strategy.
The Advisory Council is made up of business owners, entrepreneurs, tourism operators and professionals who recognize the economic importance of the tourism sector. They will identify important issues facing the tourism sector in Canada. It will also recommend new ways to increase Canadian tourism opportunities and competitiveness globally.
TIAC continues to work with the Minister and her team to ensure Canada’s tourism industry priorities are being heard. We encourage our members to participate in consultations and any other forum to provide input into the development of a new tourism strategy for Canada. We look forward to continued collaboration with the Minister, her team and officials at ISED throughout the process.
