Message from the President & CEO - July 9, 2024

posted on July 9, 2024

While many Canadians think of June as a time to escape the office and the grind of the day-to-day, we at TIAC (and, I’m sure, many of you!) were buckling down to focus on a busy tourist season!

June’s Ask an Expert Webinar - Navigating Mental Health Crises in Tourism

Mental health crises in the tourism workforce seem to be becoming both more widespread and more acute. Generalized anxieties around economic, sociopolitical, and environmental pressures are interacting with new challenges in the post-pandemic tourism workplace, producing a new HR landscape in which few operators feel prepared to navigate safely or confidently. This is why I was so pleased Evan Hazenberg from Tourism HR Canada could present to our members current research around mental well-being in tourism, with an emphasis on workplace culture and its impact on retention. Those members who missed the opportunity to take part can still watch the seminar on the TIAC site.

TIAC Is Now Rainbow Registered!

What better time of year than Pride Month to announce that we are now Rainbow Registered!

This accreditation, administered by Canada's 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC), is a testament to our commitment to creating a safer, more welcoming, and inclusive space for the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

It means so much to be recognized for our efforts in ensuring that our 2SLGBTQI+ members and staff feel valued and respected. This aligns with our core values of diversity and inclusion, and we are proud to be a part of this important national initiative. We encourage you to visit RainbowRegistered.ca to explore other accredited businesses across Canada and learn more about the program.

Helping to Grow Food Tourism

This month we announced that we have teamed up with the Culinary Tourism Alliance! Together we are launching an innovative training program that will empower businesses to innovate, grow, and significantly contribute to the Canadian Tourism landscape. The course is being integrated into our READI Stamp Accreditation process, through which we are providing businesses with the tools and recognition they need to thrive and attract more tourists. It is designed to accommodate businesses of any size and scope so don't hesitate—equip yourself with the means to succeed!

TIAC Is Growing

We are pleased to announce the arrival of six new team members (with more arriving shortly!), introducing what we hope to be a prolonged period of prosperity in the wake of COVID. We hope to benefit from their expertise in their respective fields to better serve the 600-plus members and thousands of affiliate members from coast to coast to coast. We have also made organizational changes to streamline the efforts of our growing ensemble, including the promotion of Michel Kafrouny to Senior Manager, Events and Industry Engagement. Congrats, Michel!

Yours in Tourism

Sincerely,
