Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Vice President, Stakeholder Engagement, the Policy Advisor will focus on research, analysis, and policy development to advance the organization’s advocacy goals. This role involves monitoring legislative and policy changes, preparing research-based materials, and supporting decision-making through data-driven insights.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, includes:
- Collaborating with stakeholders from coast to coast to coast
- Analyzing tourism and economic data faster than a slapshot
- Presenting brilliant ideas to TIAC Senior Leaders (no pressure, eh?)
In all Seriousness, Your Core Responsibilities:
1. Policy Research & Analysis:
- Monitor and evaluate activities, consultations, and decisions of federal departments, Parliament, and Standing Committees relevant to the tourism sector.
- Conduct research to gather data and intelligence on domestic and international tourism trends and issues.
- Analyze policy developments and trends, assessing their impact on the tourism sector.
2. Policy Development:
- Draft policy position papers, proposals, and formal submissions to government agencies.
- Prepare briefing documents and presentations to support internal decision-making and strategic planning.
- Support the development of long-term policy strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
3. Internal Data Management:
- Maintain and update internal information databases, including statistical references on tourism industries and key market segments.
- Write and maintain internal reports, including metrics to measure the performance of the tourism sector.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Provide policy insights and research findings to other departments within TIAC.
- Participate in initiatives aimed at measuring the performance and competitiveness of the tourism sector.
You'll fit right in if you have:
- A degree in something fancy or an acceptable combination of education, training and expertise (Political Science, Tourism Management, or Maple Leaf Appreciation)
- Ability to understand and interpret policy, legislation and regulation developed from at least 2-3 years of experience in government policy (bonus points for tourism industry policy experience!)
- Legendary communication skills – in writing, over the phone or in person and preferably in both official languages (French and English).
- Research skills – you can uncover insights that will influence meaningful policy decisions
- A sense of humor that can weather our long winters

The position is based in Ottawa, working a rotation of three days a week (Tuesday - Thursday) in the office, followed by two days a week (Tuesday - Wednesday) in the office located at 180 Elgin St, Ottawa, ON.
Fully bilingual (French/English) candidates will receive priority consideration.
