EMPLOYER PROFILE
The Board of Directors of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada is seeking an experienced President and CEO to manage day-to-day operations of the organization.
TIAC and this position are based in Ottawa.
Founded in 1930 to encourage the development of tourism in Canada. TIAC serves today as the national private-sector advocate for this $102 billion sector. Based in Ottawa, TIAC takes action on behalf of Canadian tourism businesses and promotes positive measures that help the industry grow and prosper. Our vision is to lead the Canadian tourism industry to be the most competitive in the world by being the voice of the industry and improving our global competitiveness.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
The President and CEO is responsible for the day-to-day direction of the association and reports to TIAC’s Board of Directors. Responsibilities include:
- Lead and direct the association to ensure it meets strategic objectives as established through the board
- Representative of the tourism sector with government, industry stakeholder and in the media
- Managing financial and operational goals and public policy positions
- Promoting strong and lasting relationships with partners, government and stakeholders
- Acting as a tireless and passionate representative of TIAC and the tourism industry
- Oversees the planning, implementation and evaluation of the association’s programs and services, marketing and communications
- Working in close cooperation with the CEO of Destination Canada and provincial tourism bodies
- Travelling throughout Canada promoting tourism advocacy and tourism development
- Providing strategic leadership and vision to the board and staff of the association, and
- Fostering a positive and productive working environment for TIAC staff
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & BEHAVIOURS
- Proven ability to influence the decision-making processes of provincial and federal governments
- Extensive experience including working with and reporting to a Board of Directors
- Experience in creating and managing high performance teams
- Experience leading an organization faced with complex strategic issues
- Demonstrated collaborative skill and proven success in a multi-stakeholder environment
- Knowledge of financial analysis and proven ability to manage significant resources
- Experience working with a wide variety of stakeholders and diverse groups,
- Experience with fund raising and sponsorship
- Experience in organizational transformation, future focus and results focused
- Experience with media (online and traditional) and messaging of issues,
- Experience with the tourism industry
- A related degree in business, marketing or a related discipline

- Communicates effectively: Excellent interpersonal skills, listening skills, and superb written and verbal communication and presentation skills in both English and French
- Builds relationships: Established and maintains a broad network of external contacts, positive working relationships, internally and externally to achieve organizational goals
- Proven association management skills including human resources, finance and membership management
- Strategic thinking: Evaluates the full context of situations in planning day-to-day activities of the association and analyzes complex situations carefully.
- Leadership: Is able to positively influence others to achieve results in the best interest of the association
- Adaptability: Willingness to be flexible and versatile in a changing work environment to maintain effectiveness and efficiency.
- Decision-making: Assesses situations to determine priority followed by a clear decision aligned with the association’s goals.
- Superior negotiating skills

SALARY
The compensation will be commensurate with that of a CEO of a medium to large national association.
