Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Vice President, Stakeholder Engagement, the Government Relations Advisor will focus on building and managing relationships with public officials and stakeholders to advance the organization’s advocacy efforts. This role includes event coordination, external communications, and monitoring the effectiveness of government relations strategies.
Your Mission (should you choose to accept It) includes:
- Being the bridge between our organization and key government stakeholders
- Navigating the complex world of policy, turning challenges into opportunities and ideas into action
1. Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy:
- Build and maintain relationships with public office holders, policy experts, and industry stakeholders.
- Act as a primary contact for external partners and ensure alignment with TIAC’s advocacy goals.
- Represent TIAC at government consultations, stakeholder meetings, and industry events.
2. Event Coordination & Outreach:
- Organize and manage advocacy events, including policy roundtables, legislative briefings, and stakeholder meetings.
- Coordinate logistics, invitations, and materials for meetings and events.
- Schedule meetings with government officials, policy experts, and external partners.
3. External Communication:
- Draft, edit, and send official correspondence to government officials, industry leaders, and stakeholders.
- Research and draft speaking notes and presentations for leadership participation in conferences or government meetings.
- Respond to inquiries from members, the public, and stakeholders about TIAC’s government relations efforts.
4. Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure all government affairs and lobbying activities comply with relevant regulations and filing requirements.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of outreach strategies, documenting outcomes and reporting on key initiatives.
- Compile regular reports for internal teams and external stakeholders on government relations activities and policy developments.
Who You Are
- A strategic thinker with excellent communication skills (preferably in both official languages)
- An experienced professional with 5+ years in government relations, public affairs, or political offices
- A relationship builder who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- A self-starter with a knack for turning complex policy into compelling narratives
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in political science, public administration, or a related field
- Proven track record in government relations or public policy
- Strong understanding of Canadian political landscape and policy development processes
- Exceptional research and analytical skills

The position is based in Ottawa, working a rotation of three days a week (Tuesday - Thursday) in the office, followed by two days a week (Tuesday - Wednesday) in the office located at 180 Elgin St, Ottawa, ON.
Fully bilingual (French/English) candidates will receive priority consideration.
