It is hard to believe that we are already in week three of the election campaign. The TIAC team continues to work to ensure that the tourism industry’s messaging is front and center. We continue to update tourismvotes.ca with information and digital advocacy supports, and I invite you to take a look for more information on the party platforms, the candidates, and meeting tools.

 

I urge all tourism operators to get out and meet with the candidates in your riding. They need to hear directly from the voters about the need for on-going support for our industry. The candidates will take this information back to their parties, which in turn will heighten the urgency of the message. All of the materials, guidance, and information that you need can be found on tourismvotes.ca under the Digital Advocacy section.

 

Please plan to vote! Make sure that you are registered by visiting elections.ca. Remember you can register to vote by mail, you can vote at advanced polls, or you can choose to vote on election day, September 20, 2021.

 

As we look towards Labour Day weekend, I am hopeful that many of your businesses will see activity and bring in some revenue. We remain focused on ensuring a seamless reopening to international travel on September 7.

Following an intensive search, TIAC is pleased to announce the appointment of Marc Séguin as our new VP, Policy & Government Affairs.

 

Marc has extensive experience as a leader in legislative and policy environments, and more than 15 years experience working for a member driven, national industry association. We are excited to welcome him to our team!

Last Friday, TIAC President & CEO Beth Potter joined CTV News to discuss what Canada's Hardest Hit businesses need from our next elected federal government to ensure their survival into the fall and winter.

 

One of TIAC’s top priorities continues to be supporting the Hardest Hit Sectors by advocating as Co Chair of the Coalition of Hardest Hit Businesses for a targeted survival program.

 

We need your support. All parties need to know that this is an important issue for their constituents so they can move swiftly with legislation in the fall.

 

To continue and maintain this momentum, we are asking for your support to:

 

1. Join the Coalition if you are not already a member. Visit hardesthit.ca to learn more, and reach out to Madison Simmons at msimmons@tiac-aitc.ca

 

2. Schedule meetings with your local candidates. It is critical that we keep the pressure on and ensure that your local candidates know that without targeted support, you will not survive, and your employees’ jobs will be at stake. 3. Please send us any key data points on your business that we can include in our presentations and briefings with government. This data will be key to illustrate how revenue has been impacted due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and that local tourism operators are still struggling. 4. Finally, any financial contribution that you can make to support the work of the Coalition is appreciated and will be critical to getting this campaign over the finish line. There is still much work ahead to ensure that the legislation in the fall is as inclusive and beneficial to all coalition members as possible.
