The Tourism Industry Association of Canada was one of the most active organizations on the federal lobbyist registry in 2012, according to year-end data from the Office of the Lobbying Commissioner of Canada. 

TIAC was the 17^th busiest organization out of 2881 organizations on the registry, ranking amongst heavy hitters from the petroleum, banking and automotive sectors.  Interestingly, TIAC secured more meetings than higher-profile groups in organized labour and the pharmaceutical industry, among others.

Published in the respected parliamentary newsmagazine The Hill Times on February 4, 2013, the list is further evidence of TIAC’s weight as a power player in Ottawa.  Not only does reflect TIAC’s efforts as an advocate for the tourism sector, but also an eagerness among public officials to work collaboratively with the sector to address its concerns.

The registry tracks all meetings between lobbyists and designated public office holders, which include Members of Parliament, Senators, ministers/ministers of state, ministerial staff, deputy ministers, and assistant deputy ministers and several other categories.
