Congress Highlights

Publié le 4 Septembre 2019

This year’s Tourism Congress is shaping up to be the best yet, with an impressive program featuring speakers and panellists representing key players in Canadian and International tourism.

Here are some highlights:

A Global Perspective on the Travel Economy | The private sector leans in, Breakfast presented by Parks Canada
Ms. Gloria Guevara Manzo, President & CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), presents a keynote on tourism’s driving force for global economic growth and job creation.

We are very proud to have Ms. Guevera Manzo attend Congress. The WTTC is well-known for its international tourism advocacy work and comprehensive reports on global and regional tourism.

The Future of Tourism
TIAC is proud to support the next generation of tourism leaders. Earlier this year, we held a contest for students enrolled in Hospitality and Tourism programs in Canada. They were required to submit a short video on future-focused solutions to a current tourism issue, with the winner presenting at Congress.

The winning entry was submitted by Shane Lobsinger, a Red Seal Chef and student of the Master of Arts in Tourism and Hospitality Management at Royal Roads University in British Columbia. We are looking forward to Shane’s presentation. Congratulations!

Federal Election Debrief: What it Means for Tourism
This is a must-attend session for TIAC members and industry stakeholders. Regardless of the election outcome, we need to keep moving forward as we build on several wins for the sector from the past few years.

Join Canada’s top political pundits, as they walk us through the opportunities and challenges facing tourism in Ottawa’s current political landscape.

Leading the discussion is moderator Steve Paikin, host of The Agenda with Steve Paikin. Speakers include Melissa Lantsman, Vice President, Public Affairs, Hill+Knowlton Strategies, Christine McMillan, Partner, Crestview Strategies, and Brittany Andrew-Amofah, Senior Policy and Research, Broadbent Institute.

Data: Marketing’s New Gold
It wouldn’t be Congress without a presentation by our industry partners at Destination Canada (DC). Their insightful and engaging sessions are a popular draw at the event, keeping audiences up to date on the latest trends in the Canadian tourism sector.

Chantz Strong and Gloria Loree from DC will discuss turning data into information and information into insights. They will also discuss influencing travellers through data-driven marketing programs and a renewed approach to optimize research resources.

This year’s Congress takes place November 18-20 in Ottawa. Check out the full program and register today
