TIAC’s Advocacy Update
- On Friday July 24th, TIAC’s President & CEO took part in a steering committee call with members of Canada’s Tourism roundtable, to discuss ongoing advocacy efforts towards collaboration with government in restarting the visitor economy and building consumer confidence for domestic travel in Canada.
- The steering committee of the Roundtable is preparing for discussions with Minister Melanie Joly (Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, representing Tourism) tomorrow morning. The Tourism Roundtable will also meet with Minister Lisa MacLeod (Ontario Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries) later in the day.
- TIAC would like to thank all industry stakeholders who participated in our recent government programs survey. We are in the process of preparing a summary of our findings in the next few days. In the meantime, if you have not already done so, please take a moment to send a letter to your MP encouraging them to prioritize tourism in all future funding programs. www.tourismcounts.ca

Government Announcements
- Early today, Minister of Health the Honourable Patty Hajdu announced more details of the distribution of federal funds for the gradual safe restart of the economy.
- The Government of Canada will provide $4.28 billion to further expand testing and contact tracing capacity, and the associated data management and information sharing systems.
- Canada will also provide $7.5 billion towards personal protective equipment.
- Last Thursday, the Quebec provincial government announced new measures that expand public gathering limits to 250 people for indoor and outdoor public venues.

- The latest edition of Twenty31’s industry dashboard is now available on the TIAC website.
- Alberta’s public health officer Dr. Hinshaw officially announced the reopening of indoor exhibits and trade shows in Alberta – a positive step forward in reopening the important meetings and conventions sector in a safe and sustainable way.
- TIAC and other partners continue to advocate for smart reopening policies such as this one throughout Canada.

Looking Ahead – COVID-19 Recovery
Several provinces have begun announcing plans for reopening economies. Timelines and actions vary, but can provide businesses and workers with information on what to expect in the upcoming weeks and months. TIAC is following up on measures announced by British Columbia to limit gatherings of more than 50 people and seeking a coordinated approach between provinces in the recovery phase. We have reached out to our provincial counterparts to work together in an effort to create an orderly recovery strategy that will address health concerns and support tourism businesses.
