TIAC’s Advocacy Update
- On Friday, David McKenna, TIAC’s Board Chair announced the appointment of Beth Potter as the new President and CEO starting March 15, 2021.
- Last week, TIAC met with representatives from ISED and BDC to share member’s feedback on HASCAP.
- Yesterday, TIAC’s Acting CEO met with the Tourism branch at ISED to discuss industry specific priorities.
- TIAC’s Board and Recovery Committee Members are on the Hill (virtually) over the next twos weeks sharing our recovery plan with MPs and asking for support for the industry. We have over nearly 50 meetings booked across all parties to share sector specific recovery needs.
- TIAC will be presenting our recovery plan to an All Party Tourism Caucus audience this Friday, along with our partners Destination Canada and the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada

Government Announcements
- AstraZeneca Vaccine Decision By Health Canada Expected In Coming Days
- Highly Affected Sectors Credit Availability Program (HASCAP)
- Federal Government Extends Pandemic Benefits
- Trudeau told reporters on February 19 that the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB), the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB), and Employment Insurance (EI) will all see extensions in the number of weeks.

- New Travel Restrictions have come into Effect
- As of February 22, travellers arriving by air will be required to take a COVID-19 molecular test before exiting the airport, and another toward the end of their 14-day quarantine period.
- Air travellers will also be required to stay 3-nights in a government-authorized hotel.
- Travellers entering Canada at land borders, unless exempt, will be required to take a test using a self-swab kit. This test can be taken either at the traveller's quarantine location or at a border testing site.
- All travellers arriving by land or air will be required to submit their travel and contact information, including a suitable quarantine plan, electronically via ArriveCAN before crossing the border or boarding a flight.

- Quarantine Hotel List Released
- The Government of Canada released a list of 11 hotels where air travellers arriving in Canada can complete the mandatory quarantine period.
- Reporters are quoting prices ranging between $1,000–$1,300 plus tax. Those rates include all costs associated with the quarantine, including food and security.

- WestJet Suspends Four Routes Until June 24th
- Calgary to Medicine Hat, starting on March 21.
- Calgary to Lloydminster, starting on March 19.
- London, Ont., to Toronto, starting on March 22.
