TIAC’s Advocacy Update
- On Friday, TIAC’s Acting CEO met with Finance Canada on tourism recovery supports in advance of the upcoming federal budget.
- On Friday, TIAC met with representatives from ISED and BDC to share members feedback on HASCAP and program challenges.
- Yesterday, TIAC’s Acting CEO met with the Tourism branch at ISED to discuss industry specific priorities.
- Today, representatives from TIAC’s Industry Recovery Committee presented our recovery recommendations to the Conservative Tourism Recovery Caucus Advisory Committee.

Government Announcements
- Highly Affected Sectors Credit Availability Program (HASCAP)
- Canada Has Approved the Proposed Purchase Of Transat A.T. Inc. by Air Canada
- Newfoundland Enters Stage 5 Lockdown After Variant Case Spikes
- Friday the government announced stage 5 lockdown across the province.
- Closed: Indoor fitness activities, non-essential retail stores, in-person dining, drinking establishments, cinemas, personal services.
- In person elections suspended – all voting will be by mail using special ballots.

- New Border Restrictions to take effect
- Crossing at a land border will require proof of a negative test taken within 72h, or positive test result within the previous 14-90 days as of Monday, February 22.
- Air travellers will be required to take a test upon landing, and are required to quarantine for three days at their own expense at an approved hotel.
- Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the measures are meant to help prevent new and more transmissible variants of COVID-19 from entering the country, adding nobody wants a third wave to start.

- Ontario Moves Regions Out of Shutdown With 4 Exceptions
- Shutdown: Toronto Public Health, Peel Public Health, York Region Public Health and North Bay Parry Sound District.
- Ontario public schools have postponed march break until April 12-16.

- Quebec: Slight Relaxation Of Restrictions Around March Break - Feb. 26
- François Legault announced the reopening of movie theatres, sports arenas and indoor pools across the province starting Feb. 26.
- Outdoor gatherings of up to eight people will also be allowed.
- Montreal and Quebec City will remain at the highest pandemic-alert level, meaning an 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew will remain in effect.

- Alberta Announces New Loan Program in Development – 6-8 Weeks
- The UCP government will roll out a new $120-million program providing additional grants of up to $10,000 to eligible small and mid-sized businesses.
- Businesses with fewer than 500 employees, and revenues down at least 60 per cent will be eligible.
