Tourism Congress + Canadian Tourism Awards > Discover Ottawa like a local
![]() |
Make the most of your upcoming visit to Canada’s capital for TIAC Tourism Congress! Ottawa’s diverse and compact neighbourhoods are where you’ll find some of the city’s best local flavours, treasures, sights and sounds. Explore the many colours of Ottawa within its friendly neighbourhoods!
ByWard Market
The pedestrian-friendly and historic ByWard Market neighbourhood is bursting with unique boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants and bars. You can always count on finding something new whenever you visit Ottawa’s oldest, most-concentrated neighbourhood! Visit the farmers’ market, take a food tour, do some shopping and dance the night away – all in a four-block radius located just a few minutes’ walk from Parliament Hill.
Downtown Rideau
More culture, shopping and entertainment await in the Downtown Rideau area, located just one block from big attractions like Parliament Hill, the ByWard Market district and the Rideau Canal (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Browse your favourite brands in Ottawa’s largest shopping centre, learn local history at the Bytown Museum, relax at the spa or see a show at the National Arts Centre.
Sparks Street
One block south of Parliament Hill, historic and pedestrian Sparks Street is home to fun annual events, delicious meals and drinks, and many city tour companies. A convenient combination!
Bank Street
The Centretown stretch of Bank Street just south of Parliament Hill seamlessly blends diverse businesses with Ottawa’s Village, home to Ottawa’s LGBTQ2 community. Between ramen noodles, breweries and refined restaurants, there’s no telling what you’ll find on the next block.
Glebe
Just South of Centretown and adjacent to the winding Rideau Canal, the leafy and historic Glebe neighbourhood blends the best of old and new. Browse the many independently-owned businesses along Bank Street before attending a sporting event, festival or concert at Lansdowne.
Chinatown
The beautiful Chinatown Gateway welcomes you to the compact and multicultural community of Ottawa’s Chinatown. Somerset Street West between Centretown and Little Italy is home to many international offerings as well as evening gathering spots.
Little Italy
Just west of Chinatown, Ottawa’s Little Italy offers more than just your favourite pasta or gelato – it’s a multi-ethnic neighbourhood centred around Preston Street. Eat and drink your heart out, then stroll over to the Dows Lake portion of the Rideau Canal.
Wellington West
Wellington West and its communities of trendy Wellington Village and edgy Hintonburg form one of the city’s most eclectic business districts located just west of downtown Ottawa. Stroll the many blocks lined with hyperlocal boutiques, breweries and restaurants, and spot the urban art scattered along the way.
Westboro Village
Just west of Wellington Village – where Wellington Street West becomes Richmond Road – is the trendy, lively and outdoorsy Westboro Village neighbourhood. You’ll find your favourite activewear brands, healthy (or indulgent) eats, as well as easy access to the Ottawa River pathways.
