WTTC Industry Benchmarks Report

Publié le 4 Septembre 2019

In Canada, the tourism sector directly supports more jobs than several industries combined, including oil and gas, mining, agriculture, auto manufacturing and aerospace.

But how does tourism benchmark against other industries in different countries around the world?

A recent benchmarking study from the World Travel & Trade Council (WTTC), sponsored by American Express compares travel & tourism's economic impact for 2018 to eight other key sectors (Agriculture, Mining, Health, Automotive Manufacturing, Retail, Financial services, Banking and Construction) across 26 countries and 10 world regions (including Canada).

The report shows not only the direct impact of each sector's contribution but also the indirect and induced impacts of these sectors to the economies of the countries and regions involved. The data provides a solid rationale for government support for the sector in countries around the world.

Understanding Canada's place in the international tourism front is essential to ensure we are keeping pace and moving in the right direction. TIAC will continue to watch for global tourism trends and work with our stakeholders to ensure our sector fulfills its amazing potential!
