The Destination Employment project is a joint initiative between Tourism HR Canada (THRC) and the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) that aims to help unemployed and underemployed newcomers secure hotel jobs in order to help address labour shortages in the tourism sector.
This three-year pilot project is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and coordinated by partners in five regions across the country.
The Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council (NSTHRC) has been actively conducting outreach to newcomer organizations and accommodation operators. Newcomer recruitment sessions were held throughout January where many enthusiastic newcomers attended the Fredericton session seeking information about opportunities.
As the project is still in the early stages of implementation, we will continue reporting on its progress.
Addressing labour issues is a key priority outlined in our pre-budget submission. We look forward to the upcoming federal budget on March 19 as we hope for continued support in addressing labour shortages.
