Ottawa’s ByWard Market is a MUST
Explore more of Ottawa this November to make the most out of your TIAC Tourism Congress experience. You’ll be within easy walking distance of the buzzing ByWard Market, an eclectic downtown neighbourhood not to be missed.
While the ByWard Market has expanded into a downtown hub of restaurants, boutiques, bars and more, the farm and craft stands still operate 363 days per year with up to 175 vendors during the height of summer. The ByWard Market boasts being one of Canada’s oldest and largest public markets that locals and visitors frequently peruse for fresh maple syrup, locally grown goods and crafty gifts.
Get a taste of Canadiana as you wander this trendy neighbourhood – treating yourself to a delicious BeaverTails pastry at the original stand on the corner of William Street and George Street is a must! Other famed sweet treats in the area include Maverick’s Donuts (46 ByWard Market Square), Oh So Good (25 York Street) and Zak’s Diner (14 ByWard Market Square).
While exploring the beautiful ByWard Market, stop and take photos in front of the iconic ‘Ottawa’ sign on York Street near Sussex Drive. For a more intimate photo op, walk through the Clarendon Courtyard for a cobblestone escape from the hustle and bustle. (Pro tip: include #MyOttawa in your social media posts!)
Keep in mind, the ByWard Market is also within close proximity to Major Hill’s Park, Parliament Hill and the National Gallery of Canada, so give yourself time to wander as you see fit. There are several excellent options for quick bites and coffee to go, including local roasteries such as Bridgehead and Bluebird Coffee. Find your caffeine fix and enjoy all that Ottawa’s popular ByWard Market has to offer!
