TIAC Talk Articles > #ItsYourShift: Ontario Introduces Anti-Harassment Training Program for Hospitality Industry
Tourism HR Canada and OTEC collaborate on workplace harassment project
The Government of Ontario has launched a new online education programme aimed to stop workplace sexual harassment and violence within the hospitality and tourism industry.
The #ItsYourShift campaign consists of 5 modules which provide guidance on how to identify workplace harassment, how to intervene and over all how to reduce the likelihood of sexual harassment and violence in the workplace.
This initiative grew out of the provincial government's "It's Never Okay: An Action Plan to Stop Sexual Violence and Harassment" and includes a commitment to train frontline and management to improve their skills in responding to people who have experienced sexual violence and help workers in the hospitality sector intervene safely if they witness sexual violence/harassment or people at risk.
Due to their extensive experience in the development of competency standards for the sector, Tourism HR Canada (THRC) were identified by Ontario Women's Directorate (OWD) as one of the two teams funded to work collaboratively to develop the program. A team from the Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association (ORHMA) and OTEC worked collaboratively on the communications, recruitment and marketing of the project.
