Tourism Congress + Canadian Tourism Awards > A New North Star - Canadian competitiveness in an intangible’s economy
![]() |
At this year’s Congress, we’ll hear from two policy guru’s on how knowledge-based economics, and not partisan politics, can help fuel a competitive economy in our tech-driven world. But what does this have to do with tourism? TIAC has long called on the government to invest in tourism and keep our sector globally competitive. This call to action includes investing marketing dollars in Destination Canada, who need to keep up with significant developments and trends in global marketing. Canada also needs to devote more money to security technologies that not only make it safer than ever for people to travel but make Canada a more appealing travel destination.
Improvements like the eTA, biometric collection, and airport screening all have significant potential if adequately investments are made. We also need to make sure that tourism businesses can improve their competitive standings. This would include training and investing businesses and their employees, to ensure they’re meeting the demands of the ever-changing tourism market. With this and more in mind, we’re looking forward to learning more about how tourism policy can relate to the intangible’s economy. "
