Tourism Recovery Measures
TIAC is launching a broad, industry-developed recovery campaign that seeks sector-specific government support to ensure Canada has a tourism industry post-pandemic.
Canada’s visitor economy pre-COVID was an economic engine for this country. But we compete with countries around the world who are way ahead of us in terms of discussing, planning and supporting a restart. We know that we will be living with this virus for some time to come. We can’t keep the visitor economy closed indefinitely. So the time is now for us to engage in this important dialogue before we lose the entire summer season as well as our industry.
We look forward to engaging with our federal leaders, including our tourism Minister and others to get this dialogue moving forward.
What TIAC is Doing for Members
TIAC has been constantly engaged with the Government of Canada to push for immediate industry-specific support. This includes a joint-letter to Finance Minister Bill Morneau with partner associations Restaurants Canada and the Hotel Association of Canada.

COVID-19 Awareness Resources
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), in collaboration with other departments, has developed a number of free resources to help Canadians stay safe, healthy and informed.
COVID-19 awareness resources:
- ArriveCAN app: Allows travellers entering the country to speed up the arrival process in Canada and spend less time with border services and public health officers.
- COVID Alert app: Lets people know of possible exposures before any symptoms appear.
- COVID-19 App and Symptom tracker: Provides the latest updates, trusted resources, and a tool to self-assess and track symptoms.
- Wellness Together Canada: Offers free mental health and substance abuse online resources, tools, apps and connections to qualified people when needed.
‘State of Tourism in Canada during COVID-19’ Dashboard
The ‘State of Tourism in Canada during COVID-19’ Dashboard 2.0, compiled by Twenty31 analysts, provides a monthly snapshot of recent global, regional and domestic tourism health and economic updates, and insights on the impact of COVID-19 on the travel and tourism industry’s path to recovery.
