Travel and Tourism Lobby Day a Success
Travel and Tourism Lobby Day was held in Ottawa on Parliament Hill on June 4th, with a broad and unprecedented coalition of six Canadian travel and tourism sector organizations meeting with parliamentarians to make them aware of the many significant challenges facing the industry.
The members of the coalition included the Canadian Airports Council, the Canadian Association of Tour Operators, the Hotel Association of Canada, the International Air Transport Association, the National Airlines Council of Canada, and the Tourism Industry Association of Canada.
The partner organizations underscored to government the critical role of the travel and tourism sector as an economic and social enabler in Canada. As Canada’s travel and tourism sector seeks to engage with government to develop a new approach to tourism-related policy that can maximize Canada’s potential, the coalition emphasized the following objectives with parliamentarians and government officials:
- The Federal Government needs to recognize that air transport is an enabler and driver of the economic prosperity of Canada.
- A strategic plan and policy framework should be developed that will enhance the global competitiveness of Canada’s aviation and tourism industries.
- The Federal Government should be proactive and diligent in negotiating mutually beneficial liberalized bilateral air transport agreements, as per the existing Blue Sky policy framework.
The coalition also produced a leave behind messaging document, which will be distributed to all 308 MPs.
